New work for clarinettist Jonathan Sage
I’ve just been commissioned to write a new work for the English clarinettist Jonathan Sage, for a performance in Huddersfield in February 2011. Conceived as a sister-piece to Steve Reich’s New York Counterpoint, of which Sage has made his own excellent recording, the piece will be for twelve clarinets – eleven of them multitracked for the concert. Jonathan is a regular Ergodos performer, and did an Irish solo tour with us in 2008. For more about Jonathan see his website. The performance takes place in St Paul’s Hall, Huddersfield on 22 February and also features music by Scott McLaughlin and William O. Smith.
